Names, forms and identity
Two names that look similar can be two different substances. This page lists the pairs we see confused most often, with the CosIng entry for each.

What to state in an enquiry
- The name exactly as it appears on the supplier's specification sheet.
- The form you need, such as free base or a named salt, powder or solution.
- The INCI entry name or the CAS number, if you have one to check against.
- The documents you need before you can evaluate the material.
How we handle a form we cannot confirm yet
Where a specification sheet has not yet confirmed which form we would supply, our product pages say so instead of naming one.
Where these names come from
The INCI entry names, their CosIng substance identifiers and the descriptions shown above are taken from the European Commission's CosIng inventory. CAS numbers and molecular formulae are checked against PubChem. Where a CosIng entry does not carry a description, the table says so rather than filling the gap.
